Lucknow Super Giants started their innings wearing the colours of Mohun Bagan, indicating a sort of home game for them due to their connection with the historic football club. Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul provided a solid foundation for LSG, with Pooran hitting a quick 45 from 31 balls including several boundaries and maximums, notably two huge sixes in the later overs.

KL Rahul supported with 39 runs, playing a crucial role in steadying the innings after some initial wickets. Their efforts helped LSG to post a challenging total of 161/7, despite a strong bowling performance from KKR, where Mitchell Starc stood out with his figures of 3/28 in 4 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders had a less-than-ideal start to their chase as they quickly lost Sunil Narine and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi to Mohsin Khan's sharp bowling. Narine was caught by Marcus Stoinis at mid-on for just 6 runs, and Raghuvanshi edged one to wicketkeeper KL Rahul after scoring 7 runs.

Despite these early setbacks, Phil Salt's aggressive approach changed the momentum. He hit several boundaries early on, notably smashing three consecutive boundaries off Krunal Pandya's over, propelling the scoring rate and setting the tone for a resilient chase.

Phil Salt was undoubtedly the protagonist of KKR's innings, showcasing his class with a powerful half-century. He reached his fourth IPL fifty in just 26 balls, featuring a flurry of boundaries that demoralized LSG's bowlers. Salt's innings were crucial as he was also nearing a personal milestone of 5500 runs in T20 cricket. His aggressive batting not only kept the required run rate under control but also put KKR in a commanding position to target the chase effectively.
